(For those wondering, I am way ahead on Agnes - she's already searching El Toro in Cool Ranch by the time I get this up! *sigh* Anyways, here we begin the next log of the story of Clever Agnes Thatcher. And I'll let Boochbeard and the gang tell the story here.)
Boochbeard: Previously, on Pirate101...
Bonnie: We were asked by the Governor to send Gortez to the royal city of Monquista.
Agnes: We had just gotten a Violet Windstone and finally made our way out of Skull Island. Man so many memories, good and bad!
Fan: And now we've entered the world of Monquista and plan on handing over Gortez to the proper authorities and then looting the place blind, he he he!
Boochbeard: Sounds like fun! Let's get to it!
Monquista... I only remember being here a few times in my childhood, but the skies are beautiful - perpetually in sunset, I remembered dreaming a dream about a twilight town where the sunset or sunrise was always lighting the sky with a golden hue. Of course, I had to remember I needed to focus, so I steered the Rainbow Amber down the windlanes until we reached the port.
(Slipped in a Kingdom Hearts reference, he he. Twilight Town from Kingdom Hearts II had the same eternal sunset sky.)
The royalty of the court addressed us and congratulated us for bringing Gortez back to them. They then told us to ship him to Zenda for a rest. When I saw the place, though, I knew they really meant to lock him up so they could avoid a scandal. Well, it could have been worse.
And I jinxed myself because the letter of introduction that the head guard got read for not only Gortez to be put to death for his crimes, but us as well! I got ticked off as the guards rushed forward.
"You are going to learn not to mess with Agnes, you chimps," I snarled as I quickly released Gortez.
More Monquistan blood spattered over the walls and the survivors were locked up.
We freed some prisoners and met Eleanor, the former queen of Monquista. She told us that the current rulers were tyrants and that she and her sisters were secretly rebelling. I smiled. "Sure," I said after she made her proposal. "I'll gladly help take out the Monquistion."
"Good," she said. "Go to my sister Anna in St. Bonobo's Abbey. She will tell you her plan."
The abbey was a nice quiet place where monk(ey)s meditated and prayed to their faiths. I helped out a few people who needed help and then headed to the abbey itself, where I met ex-queen Anna, who told that her sister Catherine, who lived in the Summer Palace, had the details of the plan. I also noted a unicorn-man in the corner of my eye. Later I would discover that he was very important.
The palace was heavily guarded but one could sneak in via the sewers. However, the keys to the sewers were held by the Monquistan Royal Guard, so we had to blow up a few of their ships. We took heavy damage - the Monquistan Navy were no slouches when it came to defense - and got boarded by the navy a few times, but we eventually obtained the sewer keys.
The keys opened the sewer gate, but we had to destroy a few crabs to get through the dank smelly place. Luckily Bonnie Anne blew them to cinder and the stank wasn't as bad as the Skull Island sewers, so I assumed that only a few guards were living in the place alongside Catherine...
I was DEAD WRONG. After mugging some guards to get the keys to the main gate, we tried to sneak in and got ambushed by their general, who called for reinforcements. It took a while but after we took out the leader, the rest fled like chimps.
We found Catherine soon enough, accompanied by a guard. "Anna said you would have detailed of your plan to overthrow the Crown."
She shook her head sadly. "There is no plan, we have lost. The Crown had captured and executed every one of my spies and agents. We have failed."
"Wow, talk about being pessimistic," I muttered. "Fine, I'll tell Eleanor what you said." I turned.
"Wait, Pirate," she called. I turned back. "I have something to give you." She turned to the soldier besides her. "You, go with this pirate and serve her as you have served me."
"As you wish, my queen," said the soldier, standing to attention. "Pirate, I will obey your orders!"
I dropped my jaw but said nothing. "Okay, if that's fine." I realized I had to keep him busy. Not that I wouldn't want his help in a fight but I already had an idea who would accompany me into battle now.
(Agnes gets a new companion! I checked the sites and it didn't mention this for any other class so I am assuming only a Swashbuckler gets this companion. I'll find out when my other pirates reach this point in the game. This guy, whose name I forgot, comes at Level 17.)
Eleanor was disappointed but not devastated by the news. "I had hoped for more."
"So, looks like the plan is a bust," said Ratbeard. "What now?"
"I will tell you what now," said the queen, firm-jawed. "I will come up with my own plan. And I have an idea of what it will be. Have you ever heard of the Monkey's Paw?"
"Let me guess, ancient artifact which could help you overthrow the crown, has some ancient curse," I said. "I'm pretty sure I've heard it all."
"With this in our possession," Eleanor stated. "We will be able to sway the nobles who are on the fence to our side, giving us a military support that will give us the edge. The last known possessor of the Paw was Monkey Hotay, who lives in La Mancha."
I nodded and agreed to help find the Paw.
The trip to La Mancha was filled with attacks by jellyfish and Royal Monquistan ships. I was getting annoyed - as much as I loved my parents for giving me this ship, it was far too frail to handle repeat attacks by the more powerful Monquistan frigates. I wasted both of my mojo potions trying to keep myself from sinking. I made a note to trade the Amber Rainbow for a better ship ASAP.
I gave up halfway and retreated back to Scrimshaw back in Skull Island. Subodai asked me to meet him in the cellar for a pow-wow. (Yes, I used a ton of books to get everyone up to par and Subodai reached Level 15 and was ready for his promotion quest!)
"So you need to perform a ritual to call upon your ancestors?" I asked. "I'll gladly help. What do we need to get for this ritual?"
"First, we need bright colored feathers from a bird," said the horse warrior. "Back home I would use falcon plumage, but the feathers of Skarakeets will work as well."
"Wait, you didn't say... skarakeets?" I said, reeling back in revulsion. "You want us to kill those?" He nodded and I let out an audible groan.
He had BETTER appreciate what I am doing for him! Eeeeeew!!!
(Yeah, those birds got in two epic hits and I finally show what they do with a critical hit - dump their feces all over you. Not pleasant and I hate fighting these birds - poor Bonnie got hit with poop from them and Agnes got pooped on when I was fighting Nikeeta [if you defeat that bird once you get a badge and unlock his doppelganger in the crown shop as a companion] for a side quest.)
After that, I helped the monkey church settle a religious debate. I won't bother with the details but let's just say that I should have tasted one of those bananas I had gathered for the Order of St. Chiquita before giving them up - then again, I don't take sides. :p
More later, after I shower and wash my clothes. I hate birds. :(
